ART CLASSES

WHY I TEACH

During my early years as a painter I attended many art classes where groups of adult painters would congregate in a sterile room or a cold village hall.  Usually instructed to all paint the same subject, or ‘follow me’ classes led by someone thinking that everyone there will be able to keep up with them, and produce satisfactory paintings in two or three hours.  I wanted to something different to that, to teach artist to paint in their own style and technique..

In my classes I encourage the student to paint whatever they want to paint.  Any subject, any medium, any style.  I make sure the studio is light and warm, with every student having plenty of room.  Classes run for a full day, with refreshments on tap.  Tables, chairs and easels are provided, along with kitchen towels, and white spirits for the oil painters.  A selection of materials are also available to purchase should you need any.

The day starts with a talk and slide show about an artist, current or historic, with a discussion on their life, their working methods and techniques.

Limiting the group numbers allows for plenty of 1 : 1 time, making the classes suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters.

Ensuring a relaxed and informal atmosphere helps everyone to enjoy their time in the studio, and is condusive with creative practices.  Why not join one of our friendly, relaxed groups in our idyllic setting in the ancient woodlands of Thornham Walks?  With my 1 : 1 tuition you can learn how to paint in your preferred style.

Great social life

At J Parker Studios we are proud of the social interaction we have built between students.  We have a relaxed and informal method of teaching art, there are no barriers to learning art, whatever your abilities, whether you are a total beginner or a more experienced painter, you will find a supportive and inspirational network of fellow students.
